Ready to take a scooter ride? We've got you covered!
Unlocking a scooter
To unlock a scooter, just tap the “Unlock” button in your app, or tap the “Scan” button in the app and point your phone’s camera at the QR code on the scooter’s handlebars.
With our white scooters, the pin will release from the lock after the scooter is unlocked. Make sure you do not place the pin back into the lock holder until you’re ready to end your ride.
If the scooter you’re attempting to unlock is not connecting, we recommend scanning or reserving a different scooter nearby, or try updating your app to the latest version. You can also try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
Riding a scooter
After unlocking, you’ll need to put up the kickstand, step on the scooter with one foot, and kick-start the ground with the other foot at least twice to get going. Press the throttle on the right-hand side of the handlebar to accelerate. It’s important to have some momentum before pressing the throttle or it may not accelerate successfully. When you’re ready to slow down or stop, you’ll find the brake on the left-hand side of the handlebar. Hold down the brake to slow down. You can also continue holding down the brake to come to a stop. When coming to a complete stop, make sure to take at least one foot off the scooter as you stop to avoid falling.
With our white scooters, make sure to put your phone in the built-in phone holder, and use the turn signals to indicate your next move. You’ll also find the brakes on both handlebars.
Need to pause your scooter ride? You can make a stop during your ride by tapping “Lock” in the app. Just make sure to park your scooter out of the way while your ride is paused. When you’re ready to resume your ride, tap “Unlock” in your app to keep riding. Note that when pausing your scooter ride, you will continue to be charged the standard per minute rate.
Ending your scooter ride
To park your scooter, you can either dock it at any Divvy station by lining up the triangle with the available dock you want to use, or you can lock the scooter to any e-station using the cable lock for no additional cost.
For an extra fee, you can also lock your scooter to any public bike rack, light pole, signpost, or retired parking meter within the service area (though Divvy members that lock their scooter within 130 feet of a full Divvy station will not be charged the out-of-station fee).
After properly parking your scooter, tap “End ride” in the app. From there, you may be required to take a photo of the parked scooter in order to end your ride. Then, you’ll be able to confirm your payment method, rate your ride, provide feedback, and/or report any issues to our support team.
You will only get one chance to take the photo of the parked scooter in the app, so please be mindful when that screen appears.
Additionally, please keep the following in mind:
- - Ensure the scooter is parked upright
- - Park on public sidewalks, the designated public area between the sidewalk and the curb, within - the area between the curb and the sidewalk if available, or at a public bike rack.
- - Ensure there is a minimum five-feet clearance between yourself and pedestrians.
- - Never block private property, driveways, bike share stations, or access to transit stops and shelters.
- - Do not block the travel area for other vehicles or park outside of any protected tree planting or landscaped area.
- - If docking at a station, line up the triangle located at the front of the scooter with the dock, then insert your scooter gently but firmly, holding the scooter in place for at least 5 seconds. Please don’t slam it! When the light on the dock turns green, your scooter has been properly locked. Just keep in mind, it can sometimes take a few minutes for a dock to register that your scooter was returned.
Note: If docking your scooter at a station, do not also use the cable lock to lock the scooter to the dock, as this may result in a parking fee. Even if the station appears full, this action will cause the system to register an open dock. Only use the cable lock at an e-station or approved object listed above.
Incentive Zones
You’ll see incentive zones marked in green when you zoom out on your app map. Ending your scooter ride within these zones earns you a discount on your ride.
To ensure you receive an incentive zone discount, wait until you see the GPS has your location properly in the incentive zone. Then, you can end your ride, and the discount will automatically apply.
